The nasty ingredienats taste nice, they may not be good for us but hey stop the food going off, make it look and taste good and I think most of the acids are natural anyway.

The acids and stuff are used primarily as preservatives.
Some food produce acids naturally like fruits. In most cases the acids are not harmful to your body.
One way to have 100% pure food is to make your own. Obviously it does not taste as good, but if its freshness and healthiness you are after it will be very effective.

A lot of things that sound nasty are actually quite innocent.
Citric acid is an extract from fruit like oranges and lemons and used as a preservative.
Acetic acid is vinegar
Without these ingredients your food would go off before you had a chance to eat it.

If you are wealthy and lucky enough to live on an organic farm where eveything you eat comes straight out of the pesticide free soil and have unlimited time to cook everything from its raw ingredients (don't have a demanding, tiring full time job which involves lots of commuting or a family to care for or other things to do than slave over a stove all day) or to buy everything (at a hideously inflated and for many of us, unaffordable, price from a 100% organic store - cycle there on your litle bike to avoid "polluting" the earth with car fumes etc) then good for you. You're lucky. The rest of us mere mortals have to make do with Tescos and prepackaged stuff.
Any rich hippie who wants to provde me and my family with "pure natural fresh" food out of their garden is welcome to do so.
Otherwise I'll just have to carry on eating the "acids".
And actually I don't know what you mean by "acids"? Acids are present naturally in many "natural foods" like fruit. Are you talking about chemicals and preservatives??

Some are for flavoring.
Some are vitamins (citric acid is vitamin C).
Some are preservatives.
Its the first and last that are usually the issues.
If you want to avoid the additives, go organic; you don't need to make everything yourself. This is more expensive as the preservatives allow the manufacturers to create in bulk and not worry as much about expirations...

the chemicals in foods help them stay fresh longer, and make them taste better. The best way to eat only natural products is to buy everything raw, and cook it yourself.
