I'm going on vacation in October. About a month ago, Southwest had tickets from Nashville to Philly for $43 a person as the cheapest price. Well, I procastinated, and now the cheapest price has more than doubled. Is it possible that that deal will come back up again? Or did I just lose it...I'm very unfamiliar with booking airline tickets and when airlines offer deals like that. Will the price only go up as I get closer to October? Any suggestions? I'm buying for 2 people and don't want to spend $400 on plane tickets.

Go to priceline.com. They will find the cheapest tickets for you. Good luck!

Usually they don't go up permanently until 3-4 weeks before the flight date... so if you're looking for October you might still have a couple of weeks to get a good deal.. but I usually fly AirTran so I'm not sure how Southwest works... because with AirTran they'll run a sale and you only have to book them at least 7 days in advance...

Usually, ticket prices do increase as you get closer to your desired flight date, though October is a long ways away (I recommend purchasing your tix within 21 days). Sometimes airlines have specials (Southwest has some good one-way fares, usually during the workweek). Also, the cheap "internet specials" (found on the rightmost column @ southwest.com) tend to sell out fast, leaving procrastinators stuck with "$three-digit" flights.

it's not really a "deal", it's all about when you buy them, or rather, how far in advance. And also somewhat seasonally. So, if you wait... you're going to pay more. sucks... but that's how it goes.

you can also talk to travel agents about when it's cheaper to fly here or there. I found out from a travel agent that november was the cheapest time to fly to england (from los angeles), so I did that and only spent like $600, instead of the $1,100 that it is other times of year at short notice.

Try priceline.com or hotwire.com. Southwest is great but this close to travel time, they may not be the best fare. I'd encourage you to at least look at the previously mentioned sites and ask plenty of questions of them to satisfy yourself before bookling with either of them. Whatever you decide to do, I would do it as soon as possible because you will get the best fare most likely if you book as soon as you can.
