the water is condensate, but first is it a window unit ? if it isn't call someone as you can incur water damage which can be costly. when you have a window unit, as I'm guessing you do,find the evidence by water traces or stains that are outside near or under the bottom. see a hole and poke a wire hanger gently into the opening and watch to see if a rush of drain water comes out.it may clog again so I would suggest temporary removal and coil cleanig with a hose out on the lawn and proped up to drain be careful and don't spray into fan motor.cover motor with plastic and ties, blow off excess water with gentle air source and let it set an hour or so in the sun best to dry more. be sure to clean the fan blade and blower wheel as it will increase its efficiency in air flow.

Depending upon where you live, it is quite common for mold to grow in the drain line from an AC system. I live on the Gulf Coast and the expansion chamber for the AC is in the attic. The drain line is tied into my house drain system, but there is also an overflow line that goes out to the side of the house to let you know when the regular drain is clogged. The last time I had a problem, I had to call a plumber to clear the drain. It was worth the money.

Apart from the other answers that mention clogged drains - check the easiest solution first which is the air conditioner is no longer level and the drain is now higher than the pan where the condensation collects.

If that's not it then I'd say look for a clog.

there should be a drain tube and it sounds to be clogged. You will need to unclog the tube or it will continue to overflow with water.

Use compressed air to start to remove the clog
