It always helped to turn them into a type of rhyming/song. Just get a rhythm going and start spelling the words to a beat. Just like memorizing a song. Best of luck to you.

write each word on a separate card and write the definition on the back. Then shuffle them and keep testing yourself on them. After a while take the ones you know out of the stack, and just keep testing yourself on the rest. The pile you don't know will keep getting smaller until you will keep drilling the very few hardest ones.

It sounds like a lot of extra work to make the cards, but the amazing thing about this method is that just the act of making the flashcards helps you learn a big chunk of the material. After that the method is extremely efficient because you are only spending time learning the ones that you don't know.

And speaking of vocabulary, Desiree, walla is actually spelled "voila." It's French.

Many people find it useful to learn by making a song or a story about the words as its easier to remember the words that way.
Example, trying to remember "cat,dog,house,bed,tv"
The cat chased the dog in to the house, it jumped over the bed and hid behind the TV etc

Your brain can be helped with visual cue's, so as you learn the story imagine the scene in your mind. Try it, it really works.

1.) alphabetize all the words.
2.) then memorize the words in sets... for example... memorize all the a-f words... this might be 8 words... then memorize the next set. it might be another 8 words... remember how many sets of words you have.
