I would not reccomend inducing your own labor. i really would'nt drink anything either. I know how you feel I am 36 weeks and tired of this already too!!! I know that if you walk and have sex sometimes that is the safest way to get labor started. But I would not drink anything or stick anything up your vagina. (that is waht some people told me)

I don't recommend castor oil to try and induce labor.
It is a stimulant laxative that sometimes has brought on contractions.
The problem is, you will get the run, and the castor oil will travel into the babys blood stream giveing him/her the runs as well, causing the baby to have a bowel movement in the amniotic sac, this will result in merconium in the water.
During labor the baby will breathe in the merconium, this can result in the baby requiring extra oxygen or possibly contracting pneumonia or other nasty side effects.
A word to the wise, don't try to kick start labor.
Enjoy your time while you can.
All too soon you will have a screaming healthy bundle of joy that will be hollering for food at all hours of te night.

I think it's a wives tail. I'd be patient. I know it's tough, my two girls were both two weeks late. Some other "suggestions" to try and bring on labor I've heard are:

eating chinese food
have sex (the prostoglandins in the sperm help to dialate the cervix apparently?)
walking
warm showers (but not hot)

Your doctor may need to induce you, good luck with the pitocin! It's the devils nectar but it gets the job done.

PATIENCE.....enjoy for as long as you can the experience of having a life growing inside of you because after the cutie-pie is born you will miss being pregnant in ways that are hard to explain. It is a very unique experience.I know you're tired of it but just try to.....
BE PATIENT SWEETHEART.

No,castor oil does not work.

Oh my. I was in your situation 2 mos ago except I was only 39 wks but miserable. I took 2 Tbls once and I got awful diarreah, but no baby. So two days later I tried it again and no diarreah, but that night I started having contractions. Good luck, but be prepared to run to the toilet.
