It was a hit in the late 60's or 70's. I really liked this song, but can someone tell me what the song was about? I mean, what happened to Timothy?

OK, Smokeater, I'm confused. I just looked up the lyrics to the song by the Buoys and it is the same song Dakota sang. Who sang it first? Dakota or the Buoys? I think Dakota was first and the Bouys re-recorded it. What say you? Can you edit?

Thanks, Smokeater. I just looked that up and you are correct, The Buoys it is! So I am asking myself, who the heck is Dakota? I know they are/were a rock band and they did sing this song. You got any info to share? Did they have any hits of their own?

I think you're referring to the song by The Buoys, released in '71. The rumor back then, was that the song actually was about cannibalism, and poor ole' Timothy turned out to be the blue-plate special...right before the trapped miners were rescued.

EDIT: Yes, I can tell you that the song was written by Rupert Holmes, and that Holmes himself selected The Buoys to record the song.

Here's what I was able to find out...two former members of The Buoys, Bill Kelly and Jerry Hludzik formed a band called Dakota in the 1990s with several new members.
Your post was the first I'd ever heard of a band called Dakota recording Timothy. Learn something new everyday!

Haven't thought of this song in ages - great tune and arrangement, but an unusual subject... lyrics in link below - you'll figure it out (then lose your appetite...)
