i see it like ...if you 0 object ..and multiply those 0 objects by 7 ..you still have 0 objects ....but if you have 7 objects ...and multiply them by nothing .....you are still left with those original 7 objects ....therefore shouldnt 7 X 0 = 7?

You're confusing yourself.

It would be zero. a x 0 = 0 always. You can't mulitply something by nothing and get something.

When you are multiply, all you're doing is adding various times. If you say 7 x 0, that means 0+0+0+0+0+0+0=0.

Remember that mulitplying is similar to adding the same number various times, just a quicker way to do it.

no 7 multiplied by zero means that 7 times you have taken nothing or zero. and 0 multiplied by 7 means that you have zero times taken 7 objects(for example). Get what I am saying. nither time you have anything and the answer is always zero. The situation which you mentioned second was if you took 7 objects once which will give you seven! :)

Your reasoning is off. If you take 0 things and multiply it 7 or 7 decillion times, you still have 0. It works regardless of which term you put first, i.e. 0X7=7X0=0. If you proposed a mathematics system in which 7X0=7, it wouln't be useful at all, for 7X1=1X7=7. Zero does not equal one. If any number equals another, you can prove anything and thus prove nothing. We need a Law of Commutability if our mathematics is to make sense.

No it's not the same thing. The easiest way to think about it is by using a variable.

If the variable = 0, then you multiply 7 * 0
If the variable = Null, then you can't multiply 7 by it.

zero and nothing are not the same thing.

that would make sense, but no. If you multiply 7 x 1 you still get 7. If you multiply 1 x 7 you still get 7. The answer doesn't change. It's called commutative property.

7 x 0= 0
if you multiply anything times 0 the answer will be 0. because if you have seven things and you times it by 0 you will have nothing. its kind of hard to explain but thats just how it is. I hope this helps!

That makes sense, but look at it this way.

What is multiplying? Adding something quicker, right?

Take 7 of something. Add it 0 times. You end up with zero because you can't add something 0 times.

No, because 7 times 1 is the same thing as saying 7, one time. So 7 times 0 is 7 zero times which equals Zero.

Let's say you buy some egg cartons, and there are 12 eggs per carton. Then you get the number of eggs by multiplying the number of cartons by 12.

Now, if you have no cartons, then how many eggs do you have?
