try this if you are using XP

start>>all programs>>accessories>>system tools>>system restore.
this will allow you to roll back your computer to the settings that were on it 3 days ago, or to the last restore point when your Internet was working

Make sure your DNS server is the right one.

On Windows 2000:
1) Right-click "My network Places"
2) Select "Properties"
3) Right-click the network connection
4) Select "Properties"
5) Double-click "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

Here, make sure the right address is in "Use the following DNS server addresses." Contact your ISP to know what it is.

Is ti possible that the internet itself is too slow and it all just times out?
Otherwise, just check your internet setting and antivirus/antispy stuff,
Also check what might be accessing the inter you don't know about

Check your security settings and make sure you have not accidentally clicked "work off-line".
Hope this helps.
