The reason behind it, is people think being gay is gross, unmoral, disgusting, "somethings wrong with you attitude". Alot of people who are gay are embarassed and ashamed. Because the general public will call them names and put them down.
So when a person is saying I am proud of it they're actually just standing up for themselves saying I am not scared to come out I am not embarassed anymore. I like who I am. Forget what the world thinks I can't change if I wanted to!!!
I am not gay but I can translate?

Because it's a relatively new socially accepted life style. People who are gay were not allowed to express themselves for so long that now that they are, they want to flaunt it a bit. So what? Who's it hurting?
It's kind of like a girl who's just had breast implants. Is she going to go around wearing loose fitting shirts that hide her new figure or is she going to go out and buy some new clothes that show off her new figure?
What you'll find is that the longer it's socially acceptable, the less "gay" gays will act. We're already starting to see signs of that in urban areas such as New York, San Francisco and L.A where being gay is not a head turning event. I've met many gay people with whom it was hard to tell whether or not they were gay or not when I first met them.
Another factor is the level of education. Generally speaking, the higher the education, the less flaunting you will see from a gay person.

Not all people act in that manner, I mean I agree with you, people like that are annoying, and I am gay!!
But it is hard to be gay, so I can see why people want to be proud of it. The thing about pride is, that not everyone even cares about you being gay.

Maybe its because the world makes the assumption of everyone being straight. What you might think is a GLBT person being loud and proud is just them saying hay im here and im a person also. I know alot of people thing GLBT people are being pushy when they kiss or hold hands with there partner but what people need to think of is as a straight person are you pushing your straightness on somone by holding hands or kissing your partner No I dont think so just as the GLBT person is not pushing there gayness just showing love and affection the same as any other couple.

Because being gay IS something to be proud of. There are too many people who still hide it, and live their lives in secrecy.
Being out and proud is a great way to let people know that we're here, in aspects of everyday life, and we are not going anywhere!

Just like any other sexual orientation person, some are just born that way loud and feeling they have to be the center of attention. I know that because of the view of society on gays that they might feel a tad needy to let all be made aware of their sexual orientation. It's more a personality trait then a lets see who I can be be obnoxious too.

They do it because they can...without fear of repercussion.
In the very recent past, being gay was something they had to hide.
They feared harassment, discrimination, ridicule, rejection.
The gay and proud stance is also therapeutic for those who developed a poor self concept, as a result of society's negative attitude towards homosexuality.

we get bombarded with insults and scruitiny every single day. If we seem to be cmoing off as having a "gay and proud of it" stance, it's because we're resisiting peer pressure. No one should be bullied the way that we have, it's immoral and cruel, so we simply look at the brighter side of life.
I hope this helps with your understanding.

It's a reaction to the "You're gay and you're going to burn in hell" stance that some misguided 'christians' preach at us on a daily basis.
LGBT people, like all people, need positive role models to help them be comfortable in their uniqueness. If no one ever said they were gay, where would people find these role models?
With the incredibly high suicide rate among gay teens, they need more people reassuring them that being who God made them is OK. So if it takes us saying "I'm gay and I'm proud" to help prevent these suicides, I'm all for it.
p.s. I'm rarely loud about it. :o)
