I continue to find large while X's (made up of a clothlike material) in and around the Charlottesville area. I found them in Crozet, Orange, Gordonsville, Charlottesville, Ivy, etc. They appear to be in places that make no real logical sense - and they are secured to the ground. Every once in a while I see new ones - and old ones are gone. I started noticing these WHITE X's in June 2005. For eaxmple : There is currently one right in the middle of the main traffic circle in Gordensville and there are 2 on a farm property along Rt. 250 in Crozet. I also saw one along the entrance way into the Kesslers bowling alley on Rt. 29 (but it is no longer there).

Don't know about VA, but IA puts up an X road sign at a site where someone was killed in an auto accident (one X for each victim). It reminds drivers to slow down and be careful.

x marks the spot , usually when gypsies come through and make a good score. they will leave an x like that to show the next ones coming thru to stop.
