im a self employed courier.... i got my work simply by going around large companies that need to get items out same day, most industrial estates have them...go take a look.
As for your van...you absolutely NEED courier insurance and goods in transit insurance, you will also need public liability.
Companies will ask you to provide evidence of such cover before giving you work.
as for getting paid, i invoice every week, i then get paid for that week 4 weeks later. This is industry norm so you need to support yourself during that time, you will also use between £1000 and £1200 of diesel in that time too.

you will need to prove that you have insurance for hire and reward and also possibility goods in transit but you can contact the following TNT Same-day also your local post office parcel force dept they also have a courier side. There also used to be a company called Delta not sure if they still exist but a lot of these same day companies do not own any vans they sub contract.

good luck you will find it hard work and do not forget you will need to support yourself and keep your van in fuel at least for a minimum of 30 days before you are likely to get paid.

Hope this helps

I don't know the answer to your question, but would caution you about using your vehicle for commercial purposes without telling your insurance company. Doing so may void your coverage in an accident.
