my friend is japanese (me too kinda....) and she is foreign exchange student. she is in high school and is staying here in canada for 1 year.

a korean guy came up to her and asked her out, but she refused because in her country (school), she is not allowed to date anyone here in canada. if she does, she will be sent back to japan.

thats her... japanese school law... or rule

Hi,
I was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. And I see some unheard stories on here so here's my opinion.

True or False

$500 fine for spitting in public: False - I believe that is in Singapore.

When you go to a house in Japan you absolutely must take off your shoes: True...but you might want to do this just so that they can get a kick out of it.

When you go to a house in Japan, bring a very nice gift: True... but they also understand that you are a Gaijin (foreigner).

They don't use toilet paper: False... I would like to know the country where people don't use toilet paper and what they use instead.

Nothing out of the ordinary: I agree.

You are not suppose to kill anyone: Ha, ha. Good one!... It's True.

In general Japan is very, very safe: I disagree. I had to get total of 51 stitches from getting attacked by a psycho killer. I still have a big scar on my knee. One of my sisters (resides in Tokyo) also told me that the countrysides are becoming to be more dangerous places nowadays.
However, if you don't go to an alley or walk alone late at night, you should be pretty safe. And people travel to NY, so...

Strict about over-staying their tourist visas: Very true. My Australian friend got deported from Japan for over-staying.

Not to bring other restaurants stuff into a restaurant: True

A country full of law: I disagree. Who said that the North America is a land of freedom??? Too many laws here.
However, Japanese PEOPLE are strict about having morals.

One more thing - "Drugs" are big no no. If you possess one at the custom, they will send you right back to your country. Oh, and you can't smoke cigarettes on the street in some cities anymore.

;-)

The one thing that is not being tolerated at all are people who over stay their tourist visas. In the past, the immigration officials would accept a written apology. Now, they are processing to the full extent of the law.
Other than that the place has no laws that are specifically radical or conservative that will affect 99% tourists or residents.
In general Japan is very, very safe.

It's not law, just a manner.

In a train, you shouldn't use a cell phone.

Some Japanse use it, but it's not good manner.
Because some people have ventricular assist device, a cell phone effect a function of the device. It's dangerous.
