i met fred flinstone and asked him that very same question. and you know what he told me? he said if he wore socks then Dino couldnt lick his feet!!

Think about it. Socks require a fairly fine yarn to be at all comfortable, and small knitting needles, and therefore the invention of spinning and knitting. The running joke in The Flintstones was the way they did things like we have (cars, etc.) while using stone-age materials. Generally, they were very large and coarse as a result; remember his car tips over from the huge "brontoburger" ribs that are attached to the car window? So socks would be inconsistent with that image.

He does wear socks, a fresh pair every morning, but by the time hes done using his feet to stop his car, the socks wear out and burn to pieces.
