Aryaa,

Nothing special is required. You must be able to read the psychology of society. You must know their customs and rites etc. before going to write any thing about them.

But main thing is: What you see, listen, hear, smelled or felt must be given proper words to explain all that. You will be a successful journalist.

Yours,
rsjrsj.

You want be (not do) a social journalist. And you what to know what skills do I require? Not (what skills require for me?)
So, if you're planning on using the English language in your career choice you have a long way to go yet before your English is good enough.

I think you're saying you want to be a journalist and write about social issues.

Here are a zillion suggestions from an ex-newspaper reporter.

1. You need to read the newspaper and/or watch the news every day to stay up on current events. Read more than one newspaper if possible (I always read the New York Times and my local paper, I try to read the Wall Street Journal as often as possible, and several times a week I'll read some other paper from elsewhere in my home state.) 2. If you're going to do this in English, you need to work on your English. If you're going to write in your native language, it would still help a lot to be able to speak good English because bilingual skills always help. 3. You need to be able to write clearly, grammatically, and fast. You need to be able to organize your thoughts on paper, and do it clearly and rapidly. I assume you're in school? Work really hard in any class that requires you to write papers. This includes papers you write in English class, in social studies or history, or any other class. 4. It would help for you to have good computer skills: Can you do good research online? Can you create a webpage? 5. If you plan to do radio you'll want to learn how to use a sound recording program: The ones you can use at home are a good start to learn the concepts and have fun. 6. If you plan to do any kind of journalism where you are working with video, then you should learn to use a video editing program. 7. If you're in high school or college, get on the school paper. If you're in college, you do NOT have to major in journalism or communications: Something like history or political science is just as good, or actually if you're on the school paper you can major in something that's completely unrelated (Physics, theater, whatever). 8. If you're in high school and your local paper has a kids' page feature, sometimes they'll have like a panel of high schoolers that meets every couple of weeks to discuss issue. Or they'll have kids contributing to the kids' page somehow. Find out about this and see if you want to do that. 9. If you're in college you should do summer internships with newspapers. These should obviously be in the newsroom, not in advertising or anything like that.

Hope this helps. Best of luck to you.

I think you mean that you want to BE a social journalist. "Doing" a social journalist is a entirely different question sweetie.

You need to go to college and major in journalism or something to that effect. English perhaps?

Um-- what do you mean by "doing" a social journalist? Become one? Have sex with one? Either way will probably require better grammar. Practice those skills--I simply can't tell what you are asking.
