It depends a lot on the team you are trying out for. In some instances you might need years of playing experience to make the team, whereas in others, no experience at all might be a plus. I am a high school girl's coach and I don't have a team with players who have much (usually none) prior experience, so in essence, I teach my team to play. That includes teaching "how" to hit the ball, as well as the rules of play and how to keep score. Sometimes it is almost more helpful to have no experience at all rather than have bad habits when you try out as far as I'm concerned. The best thing you can do is act enthusiastic and be willing to try to execute the skills the way the coach asks you. I know it's a cliche, but "attitude is everything". A coach will be much more willing to keep you on the team and work with you if you show that you listen and follow directions and that you give 120%. Do a little research and find out what kind of team your school has before trying out. If your high school team is like mine, I say "go for it"! In any event though, trying is never the wrong thing to do. If you think you have a genuine interest in the game and you're willing to work at it...definitely try out. Tennis is a sport you can improve at and participate in your entire life. It's worth the effort to learn. Good luck!

First, It is important you know the basic rules. When to switch sides and such. Always have a second racquet same make model and grip in case you break a string it does not cause major distress to you. Listen to your coach. There is a good chance that these guys are just math teachers looking to make a few extra dollars , still show him or her a great deal of respect. Be flexible/ If you get placed with a partner that you are far better then, keep up the good fight. If your partner makes a bad error do not make a face just try and keep building his or her confidence up. If you are feeling you are getting a raw deal wait until you have a moment alone after practice to tell the coach that you think you could be doing more. Do not do it in front of anyone else. Stay positive even when you lose , it is not the worst idea to ask your coach what criticism he or she has for you. The more contact and good conversations you have with the coach the harder it is to cut you. Bring water with you , You never know how far it is to the fountain. An extra pair of shoelace is not a bad idea. You never know when you will be tying your shoes tightly and they will snap. Be supportive of your mates that shows good teamwork, coaches notice that stuff. When you have to do the running drills and distance running try and always be in the first three to show your hunger. Practice after the practice is over. Get a friend or serve ts is another way to get noticed, Good luck. Any specific questions drop me a not . Take care.

how to play, be one of the top 10 to go out for the team since tennis teams are not that big. If this is your first try at tennis, i'd forget it. There are high school kids who have been playing since they were very little.

You need to know the rules of the game to start off. You should then know your style of play so you can work to develop it even more. Lastly, you should learn to have a good mental game.
