We discussed this prior to the ceremony. Then the pastor snuck it in during the service, and I stood there in front of God and everybody, and said NO! The ceremony went on as if nothing happened, and at my reception, everyone was dying laughing, and is still, 10 years later, a huge part of conversation at every wedding..."haha remember when"... is how it always starts.
I was mad at first, that the pastor did that, knowing I didn't want it, but I'm over it, and have a very healthy, happy relationship with my hubby!

my first marriage did and ended up in divorce 2 years later that and the fact and the only scripture he knew was wives be submissive to their husbands. my second one (still married and so so blessed) said love honor and cherish some may still say obey but I'd never say it again. Marriage is a partnership not a dictatorship smile

My vows didn't say obey. Why promise something that I'm going to break.

No obey.
I don't fetch when he throws a stick and I don't' stay at home barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen.
lol
Do I follow my vows to love, honor and cherish him?
Of course.
Why else would I marry him?
I would have dated him otherwise.

about the "obey" part.. it only works if the Man truly respects, honors, and cherishes his wife. if she can trust her husband to make good decisions for the family, and trust him to take care of her, the family, and satisfy her needs, then and only then will the "obey" part make sense. until Men know to take charge of their actions and do their part, can they expect a woman to obey. and they are not obeying because they are weaker, or less of a person. they are doing it because it will best for the family and the relationship. it will never work if there is lack of respect, lack of trust, and misunderstandings or miscommunications, or abuse. both people must do their part to do what is best for themselves, and the family as a whole.
