Quark is a document layout program. You build single page or multiple page documents.
Adobe Creative Suite is a series of programs: Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design, Acrobat. Each of these programs is used for different graphic applications. In Design is used in document layout the same way Quark is.
The printing industry accepts both Quark files and In Design files for page layouts as industry standards - you really don't need both anymore (just include all fonts and all graphics). Better yet, Create a PDF file (in Acrobat) with all fonts and graphics embedded in the document. No printer would refuse that.

ginbail is right. I have used Quark and Adobe Pagemaker (the predecessor to InDesign) quite a bit. I only used InDesign for a little while and it seemed very similar. The other programs in the creative suite are for specific uses.
I swore I'd never like enything but Quark, but I was wrong. I like them all and wished I had gotten more experience on InDesign - it looked like it had some really cool functions.

QuarkXpress is a software like Adobe InDesign and, generally, they've the same featueres. The Quark is most old and tradicional than InDesign, so it [yet] is used for many DTP professionals. I guess that InDesign is pretty better than InDesign because it interface more easy to understand and it has a great integration with others Adobe softwares.

Quark is a page layout software. It does something completely different than photoshop, illustrator, freehand, etc. It has it's specific uses, while the adobe programs have their specific uses. It depends on what your final product is.
