Take your Dad out for a coffee and tell him that you know that he needs help, and that you will stand by him. Then get him to a counsellor. The best way to do this is not to have a bunch of people encircling him and yelling at him that he is wrecking his life; that will only send him skidding downward in his depression.
YOu also have to prepare yourself for the possibility that your Dad might not want to seek help, he is an adult, after all. If that happens, you have to accept his decision and possibly get assistance in dealing with it.
Good luck.

This is a hard matter to deal with, I understand what it is your looking for. Im an alcoholic, I have been trough alot of stuff with it and I still drink but not like I did I want to say I am recovered but I still drink I guess Im just a functional alcoholic now.
The answer is probably right in front of your Father and you. Your Father is self-medicating so he doesnt have to feel the pain and hurt that has come upon him. He has probably started to isolate himself and he tends to just not have any life inside of him.
There are other people in situations just like this everyday and there are groups that can be sought out and attended. The support from you and any other family memebers is good but if you were to go to a meeting of some sort ( AA ) ( NA ) ( CA ) these are few abbreviations of different groups, support your father and go with him so that he isnt alone or doesnt feel that way. I guess the first thing is for him to want to get help because if he doesnt want to then it wont happen and may make matters worse by trying to get him too. If there are any specific questions that I might be able to help you out with or you just want to talk to someone about you can email me crestfire99@yahoo.com or add me to messenger
Thanks for posting this question
Everything will work out for you and your Father !!

I have been suffering from post partum depression for the past one year when I gave birth to a baby boy. I couldn't stop thinking about how my husband loves him more than me and how things might be better if he wasn't born at all. Thus, I stayed away from him because I knew that I might do something I will regret for the rest of my life.
Almost instantly I went to a therapist and convince them that I need help. Among other things, I've tried herbal supplements and other book to treat depression but nothing works like the Depression Free Method. So now I'm proud to say I'm one of the happiest mother in the world. My husband loves us both very much and I thank the Lord for the blessing he gave us.

Give him a chance to change his moods, not by telling him what he must do, but by changing the scenery.
Take him with you on a trip so he doesn´t see the walls of his depression. Make him feel needed, ask him for advice, ask him to help you in projects, find him a job, offer him to move to another city. At the same time try to reduce his consumption.
I know it´s very difficult, and staying home won´t help at all.
In a few words, change his surroudings and his modus vivendi, I think that he should come around then.
Good luck

i'm a recovering drug addict, i'v been clean for over 3 years now, my friends(the only family that i have) stuck by me, and told me to go to rehab or get out of their life, they told me later that if i had chosen to leave they would have called the cops on me so i would have went to jail. i needed it i was tore up inside about my family and depressed too. i didn't have money to pay for rehab but they will settle something with you, atleast at the rehab i went to and tell him that rehab isn't just for addiction, it will help you cope with the everyday things in life, if he is not religious, there are ones that help you without serious religiousness, i can honestly say i'm a happier better person because of it, the one i went to is called Chandler Valley Hope, in arizona i recommend it, good luck, if he goes visit him good luck to him to

the best thank you to enable him comprehend which you relatively decide to assist is thru telling him you're there for him whilst ever he's able to speak and that he's not a lone. maximum folk turn to drugs as a results of fact they decide to sense something yet how they sense. you are able to only help those that desire the help.

All you can do is show him you love him. HE has to kick the problem, he has to check himself into a center to help get him off the drugs and he has to make himself undepressed. There isn't anything you can do to make him do these things.

YOU CAN'T HELP HIM. YOU CAN ONLY LOVE HIM AND TELL HIM YOU HOW YOU FEEL. IT'S HIS CHOICE TO ADMIT IT AND GET HELP. MAYBE IF HE KNEW HOW YOU FELT AND KNEW HOW HE WAS LETTING YOU DOWN HE MIGHT WANT HELP. MAYBE IF HE KNEW HOW MUCH YOU LOVED HIM, AND HOW PROUD YOU WOULD BE IF HE GOT HELP, HE MIGHT WANT TO. THERE ARE ORGANIZATIONS LIKE ALANON, AA, AND NA OUT THERE FOR HELP AND SUPPORT. HELP YOURSELF FIRST, THEN YOU WILL BE MORE ABLE TO DEAL WITH HIM. YOU CAN'T FIX HIM, BUT YOU CAN BE SUPPORTIVE OF HIS DESIRE TO CHANGE.
TAKE CARE!
