Job abandonment is when you don't show up for work and you don't call in. You need to ask your former boss for a GOOD explanation of why you were fired. Technically, yes, you can collect unemployment.

I know that is the state I live in (Indiana) you can go apply for unemployment and then the company has the chance to fight it if they want to. If they do that and you don't agree with their reasons it will then be taken to court. If you have any proof to back up your claim that you were fired for no reason then you will be able to present that in court. And if either side (you or your former employer) doesn't like the outcome then either one of you can appeal. I don't know if there is a limit on how many times you can appeal it though. I know a friend of mine has done this twice and won both times but the company keeps appealing it and now it's going back to court for the third time. Good luck and if you really believe you are in the right don't give up.

I believe it depends on what state. There is a thing called job abandonment. How long did you work for the company? Where you a full time or part time associate. Why didn't you go to human resources to fight the charge? Contact hr for your company, if that doesn't work, then contact unemployment for your state.

"Job abandonment" could mean either the job is no longer available or you were not fulfilling the job requirements. Did he explain this to you? If you were not fired for any intentional wrong doing, you should be able to file for Unemployment Compensation in you state. Check online for your state's UC website. PA is www.state.pa.us.

There has to be a reason why you were fired. What does it say on your termination letter?
