he needs to step up. but there are plenty of programs out there to help single parents people may look at him funny at first since most single parents are female. But he can get all the help he needs and hold his head high for doing the right thing and accepting responsibility for his actions

This is a lose/lose situation, but with a possible silver lining for the infant.
An 18-year-old of either sex is not sufficiently mature to take on the responsibility of an infant, even if there are hundreds of young parents out there who are going to say otherwise. The boy hasn't finished growing, physically, emotionally & mentally; he hasn't finished his education, probably doesn't have a good job. Does he know anything about infant care?
The girl is irresponsible but so is her mother. As for abortion at 5 months, nobody will perform it, because infants of that age are nowadays viable.
The most important thing for the young man to do is to VISIT A LAWYER who deals in family issues.
For example: if the girl gives up the baby, the boy needs to know that he, too, has a voice - but reason should tell him to agree to it.
BUT if the girl decides to keep the baby the boy becomes liable for support.
HOWEVER, she sounds like someone who will not be allowed by society (in the form of CHildren's Aid) to keep the baby.
In this instance the BEST INTEREST OF THE CHILD have to be paramount.

Anytime a child is born out of wedlock there should be an adult available to help with the newborn. I think adoption would be great. There is so many of us women that can't have our own child and would love to have a newborn to give love to and a better life then drugs. If she is truly on drugs then it is obvious that the baby will have to be detoxed. His life is already off to a bad start. Talk to your friends about this. If you are a true friend and you care what goes on in their life then stand by them.

Well either he/she needs to step up to the plate. It doesn't matter if he's a vidiot or not...he'll have to get his act together and a baby will show him that in a hurry. If he takes responsibility for the child he'll have no time for computer/video games. Take charge and go with it...

If she's on drugs, that kid is going to need to be detoxed at birth. That's not fun. I say adoption.
