I actually prefer the one-frame comics like "the Far Side", "Bizarro", and "Cornered'.
But Calvin & Hobbes was/is cute. Too bad they never made a cartoon series of it like they did Garfield.

lol, I have a siamese lynx point called Hobbes,she's all stripey
She's a sweetie,18 and still ticking. Her attitude is very much the same as Hobbes the tiger and yes she is my bestest buddy.
My very favorite strip though is For Better or for Worse.
The kids have grown up in real time in this strip and it's very realistic.It's a bit of a soap but the family life is typically Canadian and we watch it to see how the story plays out. The author has even killed off pets and people. We've seen this sort of thing in classics like Gasoline Alley but it's not a huge trend in the cartoons now.
