Anything really relaxing would be great. I just discovered Enya - Only Time. This is a good start, but I would like some more songs, so I can burn a CD. Thanks!

I love Enya too. You could check out Yanni, he's got some great, soothing new age-y kind of music. My favorite CD of his is called In the Mirror; and my favorite song is called The End of August. Celtic music is strangely soothing as well, well a lot of it is, so do look into that. Nature songs are nice too. Go to your public library and check some CD's out, you can burn the songs you like and you won't be out any money. Good luck!

I took a variety of music with me to the hospital, and I was very happy that I did since it was almost 24 hours from the time I was induced until my first baby was born.

I actually took several different CDs -- some to relax me, some to cheer me up and energize me, some to make me laugh. Mostly, I took old favorites -- songs that I knew really well and could just enjoy. Many of them had some kind of special meaning or memories behind them so that I could focus on the memories and not my labor pain. The nurses were laughing at us b/c every time they came into the room, something different was playing. :-) I actually played really upbeat music while I was pushing, and it helped give me that energy to keep trying.

Here's a sample of what I took. Obviously, you have to go with whatever your favorites are.

Jimmy Buffett
Ohio State marching band music
Barenaked Ladies
Steve Miller band
James Taylor
Shania Twain
classical music -- Mozart, Copland
Enya (think the CD was "In Memory of Trees"?)

That's all I can remember right now. I didn't use music as much when my second daughter was born, but I still glad I had it -- just in case.

Good luck to you!

Hun, don't listen to all of that. Enya has some really great music out there only time was just one of her good songs. if you go to walmart or other stores like it, shopko, meijer, k-mart... the list is endless, there is usually a section near the candles that has some Cd's you can listen to before you buy. if you like Enya, I suggest the Celtic music or the piano music. they're very easy to find, and low priced.

I was just going to say Enya! I listened to them with my first baby. Also, I just made a cd of my favorite songs...this helped me feel more comfortable in the hospital. Good luck!

Enya's good...I think I'd like Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Ulali's Rattle Songs, that sort of thing. Maybe Dar Williams' Beauty of the Rain, or Tracy Chapman's Let it Rain, if I'm up to hearing lyrics. I wonder why I picked two albums with "Rain" in the title....

Anything that request an epidural. Go with Shay's answer - all you are going to want to do is get that baby out! The last thing you will worry about is what music may be soothing. There is nothing that sooth you while you are in labor....except Vodka (j/k) - just get that epidural!
