Last year at Jacksonville Zoo a gorilla crossed the water moat and ended up on the Chimpanzee Island. There was substantial aggression when initally the three chimpanzees attacked the gorilla but when the females retreated to their indoor space, the male gorilla inflicted wounds on the remaining male chimpanzee. In this case, the gorilla got the better of the interaction but it would depend quite a bit on the sex and age of the combatants (ie. a full adult male chimpanzee versus a young female gorilla might end up differently).

That all said, these interactions have not been recorded in the wild despite the fact there are small regions of Africa where both species exist.

A Chimp would have nothing on a Gorilla. Both are incredibly strong, but size is the determining factor.

Most likely the gorilla but gorillas are peaceful and on aggressive and chimps do actually hunt and kill smaller monkeys and have fights among themselves and other troops so even though the chimpanzee is much smaller I would give it a chance as it would most likely be the aggressor and strike first.

Why do you ask the question? - there is literally no contest.
Gorillas are vegetarian,
Chimps are omnivorous,
They have no need to fight.
It is only humans that fight for anything other than food supplies.
There are fights between males of the same species, but gorillas and chimps are diferent species, so ---
Who would win you or the chimp?

The chimps. they're commonly rather vicious, more effective so than a gorilla, and they are rather sturdy. They use their hands, legs. and teeth, and function that particular same '%. mentality' that people have-it truly is undemanding to incite a revolt with them. Chimps (besides as an different primate), might want to seem lovable, small, and cuddly. yet they're first and suited warriors! I pity every person, or something, that messes with them.

Gorilla...

But chimps would start the fights as yobs and gang bangers... gorillas only triy and defend their family

Chimps are smaller and weak... Gorillas are bigger and strong. You be the judge.
