I think the ET thing will be fine, but if it really bothers you, here are some alternative middle names if you choose not to go with Tyler...

Ethan Parker
Ethan Daniel
Ethan Matthew
Ethan Kenneth
Ethan Bryan
Ethan Ryan
Ethan James
Ethan Douglas
Ethan Brent
Ethan Landon
Ethan Brendon / Brandon

That is a very cute name. All kids run the risk of being teased about their name or the way they dress the way they talk. Try not to focus to much on the mundane - its not like u are naming him super freak tyler. All names if you think about it enough can be joked about. Kids will tease other kids no matter what - and et was a good guy!! My neice is 10 and her initials are B. O. - like body odor - so far noboby has ever teased her about that. I think u are jumping over board before the boat even gets a leak. If you love that name then give it to your baby!!!!

I love the name Aidan.

Re: Ethan Tyler -- Not a big deal about the E.T. thing -- besides unless Tyler is your last name , he probably won't go by those initials

I think that Ethan has been in the top 10 baby names chosen for like the last 10 years. Also, if you think your child will be teased about a name, don't name him that. There was an article in Annies Mailbox about unusual names:

Dear Annie: I would like to comment on the letter from "Jane Smith" regarding unusual names.

I am a teacher and have had classes with a Napoleon and a Wolfgang, and I would like to tell parents who are considering an unusual baby name to try it out first. When meeting new people, introduce yourself with the name you are considering for your child and see the response.

There have been children in my class who have not raised their hands because they were embarrassed to hear their names called. Children can tease and make fun of the most common name. An unusual one truly invites a lifetime of grief. I know because I also have an unusual first name and have experienced these feelings for 58 years. -- M.

Dear M.: Thanks for the firsthand testimonial. Parents who are considering unusual names ought to follow your suggestion.

I realize you aren't going with names that are really out there, but ET. Maybe kids his age will never have seen the movie.

I don't think people will tease him about ET part, and Ethan Tyler is a really nice name =)

My opinion is if kids are making fun of you child's name it's much better then making fun of their intelligence or personality. My name ( Dane) rhymed with everything but I much preferred people making fun of my name then making fun of something I could help like how smart I was or something else.

As far as E.T. Barring a remake that movie will be so old most kids of your son's generation won't know much about E.T. and won't make the connection.

Most kids being born now (his peers later on) will not know who E. T. is. And even then most probably will not know what his middle name is, and if they do, they won't put two and two together! Ethan Tyler is a great name!

Ethan and Tyler are so incredibly popular. I would go with something a bit more unique. How about Cameron?

If you like the name than use it. Kids will find numerous reasons to tease other kids and there is nothing you can do about it. I wouldn't worry about the initials so much - if you like it, use it.
(try to practice yelling the name a few times, if you like the way it rolls off your tongue than its a fit since you will be doing that a lot when he gets here LOL!)

ummmmm dont pik anything too common like ben or tom. Pik a name that isnt weird but isnt a name that will make your baby just another one of the crowd. I like the name stuart or toby or even john. These names arent uncommon or anything but theyre nice names that wont take the specialness out of your baby boy.
