It'll depend on what the $ amount is. It varies from place to place, but generally, if it's less than $3,000 you'd have to file in "small claims" It's common, if not universal for small claims courts to forbid using lawyers, and must be filed in the area where the defendant lives/works. It's a less formal "quickie" way of handleing the smaller cases. Honestly though, it'll probably cost more to fight em in court than it'd be to walk away from the matter. It sucks I know, but that's what alot of these places count on. They know most people will cut their losses rather than stand up on principle. What I'd do, is contact the area's "bar association" and file a grievance with them. If there's unethical/illegal stuff goin on, they're the one's with authority to remove the company's right to practice law.

Get the name of a good Attorney in UT. Then, contact them and ask about taking the case of contingency.

Sorry, lawyers and free can't be used in the same sentence. There are some laws, but it will take a lawyer my friend to interpret them.
