I got a part in my school play and I have a scene where my mom died and I have to cry by her bed. I need help on how to force tears out. Can someone give me some tips? Thanks for your time.

laugh, but put your arms over it so its muffled, it sounds the same, or have someone peel an onion

Okay! You don't want to make this look fake. Start out with your entrance.
Make it slow and keep your eyes focused away from the person playing your mother as if your searching for what to do or say.
Make small glances toward her once in a while.
Take deep breaths every so often and and blink your eyes a couple times.
Now look up and swallow as if you are trying to keep your tears down and take more dep breaths.
Also try biting your lip to get a realistic look.
Alot of the time yawning can make your eyes water as well.
Just practice at home in your room looking in the mirror!
I really hope this helps you! Just remember to not suddenly burst into tears.
This runs the risk or making the scene look cheesy!

Well, not everyone cries at their mother's death, it all depends on what you as the actor, as the character, feels in the moment. Try not to sob, since it can throw off fellow actors who aren't prepped, and makes you hard to understand, but "tricks" tend not to work.

The best thing is good old method acting, when you try and take a real life experience and infuse those emotions into your scene. I know it works for me, but I am a very emotional person in any case, so it's easier sometimes.

The only thing I can think of besides method is yawning while keeping your eyes open (if onstage don't open your mouth to yawn) and that should make your eyes water.

Break a leg!

Don't do any of that stuff about sniffing onion. You need to bring real emotion to your character. Try emotional recall. This is where you focus on something in your past that you can relate to the way your character feels. It takes a lot of concentration, but it will be a lot more interesting for your audience than onion tears! Break a leg!

"Fake" crying onstage is bad business. If you think that the audience won't know it's fake, you're fooling yourself.

Have you even begun rehearsing this role? If not, then don't worry about manufacturing emotional responses. Once you're well into rehearsals, you'll probably find that, if you're listening carefully and responding naturally, you'll be in harmony with the emotional landscape of the scene in question. When the time comes, you'll do what's appropriate.

Just think of a really sad time in your life...or try to imagine how you would really feel if this wasn't just a play and it were real life and your mother had just died, these are some tips that I have found helpful when I have to cry on command.

you're in a school play; not tv. the people in the audience aren't goig to be able to tell if actual tears are soming out or not, but they can hear you. make sobbing sounds and think about something really sad as others have said. it doesn't work for me, but for you it might. I'm an emotional person so I would cry anyway, but PLUG IN TO YOUR CHARACTER. you aren't you, you're that character. these things are happening to you, not someone you're portraying. hope that helps!

Having been in plays before, I find it helps to think of something sad -- family or pet dying, a particularly bad breakup, etc. You could also tilt your head down so no one can see your face and pretend to cry. Think about how you sound and what actions you make when you cry and copy them.

Don't fake cry! Let the emotions happen. If you cry- great. If not, play whatever happens- shock, anger, fear, etc. Don't force something that isn't natural.
