It takes a little getting used to being fed in a different way. Start slow. At first, offer the rice cereal at breakfast only. You may also want to experiment with different types of spoons. Some babies only like the kind with the soft tips, others prefer the metal type, and some like the plastic ones. Try to get in a few spoonfuls before he starts crying. Talk to him in a sing-song voice as you feed him to help soothe him during this feeding transition. Gradually increase the amount of food and the times of day that you offer it. Eventually, he will move forward and begin eating the rice cereal consistently.

Just because the books say you can start him on cereal, doesn't necessarily mean he's ready. If he cries, just stop, and try again in 2 or 3 days. He really will eventually get used to it. Also, try feeding him before he gets really hungry, say about an hour or so before he usually takes a bottle or nurses. If he's too hungry, he'll get frustrated, since he won't get the instant satisfaction of sucking, or feeling full. It may be as long as a month or two before he is actually eager to eat from the spoon, but keep at it, and if he resists, just try another day. Good Luck!

are u using a regular spoon OR one of those soft tip ones......try mixing some banana desert in it next time probably doesn't like the way it tastes. You should be using a soft tip small spoon if your not already...Also are u subbing food for his bottle? If you are that's no good. You can start trying different foods between his bottles never instead of...My son started baby food between bottles at 4 months....this is OK as long as your giving him his bottle first then in between with food. 2 hours or so after his bottle....he will also last longer between bottles as well. Only stage 1 food though. Not to much cereal this will constipate him..If you have anymore questions feel free to e mail me K

probably he doesn't like the rice cereal. why not leave giving it for a week and start with a different recipe like boiled vegetables or anything like that in a different colouful container with asoft spoon . The time u feed also depends like u can start giving a food when u think ur child is very happy and in a good mood probably when he watches other children or goes out. I have tried this with my 2 sons and i have always been successfull. Gradully u can introduce what ever u want. I am doing it still even when my sons are 13 and 8.

are you only feeding him rice cereal? try mixing a little vegetable, or fruit with it, or even some formula. he may just not like the taste. then again he may not like the spoon because it's something new. My oldest son didn't like the spoon either, so I had to cut bigger holes in the bottle nipples, and mix whatever I would feed him into a bottle of formula. he's 7 now and after he was able to feed himself finger foods he never cared about the bottle again. (And he uses silverware appropriately now.)

Try feeding him formula with the spoon. He might get accustomed to the spoon that way. Or applesauce. Or put some applesauce on his lips and when he tastes it he may want more so put some on the spoon and he might take it because it is good. I wouldn't want rice cereal stuck in my mouth either.

Try letting him play with the spoon, holding it and banging it around. My son didn't like it either until he got to touch it and do what he wanted with it. (He is very demanding) Another thing might be that he is allergic to rice ceral, try the barley or oatmeal cereal for babies.

he's not ready.... you can get him comfortable with the spoon gradually ...
try feeding him baby cereal at 6 months --- make sure it's a soft tipped spoon (they have them for babies).... try mixing a liitle fruit(baby food fruit) in with the cereal so it'll have a better taste.

Try mixing the rice cereal with his bottle formula/breast milk. And make sure it's boob temperature. :) Or try mixing the rice cereal with banana or strawberry yogurt. The new taste might intrigue him. If he's teething, he might like it cold. Try that. Most of all give it time and keep trying!!!
