I think Trend Micro has a free trial anti-spyare program.
Google them & check.
You will eventually need to BUY an anti-spyware program especially since you are running on that dinosaur windows 2000!
Dude/dudette - you need to break down and spend some bucks or switch to a Mac!

About those free scanners - I have tried several, some are good & some are crap. Many do perform a FREE SCAN but then prompt you to purchase their product. I would hardly call that a "free" solution.

Backup all you important info on prefferably CD rom, (Burner) and reformat your hardrive excluding the spyware. Or go into add/remove programs in the Control Panel and uninstall the program. (you might need the software disk for this.)
