undertones involving immigration. I respect their views because they have the right to feel the way they want to. On the other hand i do not want them to send me anymore emails like this, the worst part is that they also sent it to my 8 yr old daughter, she has an account so she can keep in touch with family members that live far away. How can I approach them without offending them, they are very sensitive and the slightest thing will cause them to clam up. Example...i forgot to send a fathers day card to grandpa and they have refused to send birthday cards to my children ever since, not a big deal, but just an example. can anyone give some advice?

Be honest with them they are permitted to have their own views on the subject but times have changed and it is no longer acceptable. Your 8 year old will be brought up in a multi racial society and should be permitted to make up her own mind and not be swayed by previous generations prejudices. Do not worry about offending them they did not think twice before offending you or your daughter

It is a big deal that they stopped sending cards to your children because you forgot to send them one. That is rude and childish. But of course you cannot change people, and if you want to keep a relationship with these grandparents I would simply ignore their behavior. But you need to tell your daughter that what her grandparents sent is wrong, and you do not believe that way. And if they continue to practice other rude behavior, or send racist messages, continue to explain to your daughter that they are wrong. It's better she learns now that not all adults are right, not even the ones she's related to.

Your 8 year old gets email? Hopefully you screen it so this will be a non-issue in that regard.

Frankly, your great grandparents sound obnoxious. I would simply tell them that you'd rather not receive (nor your daughter) any emails with derogatory content. Be respectful about it, as much as possible!

If they find THAT offensive, screw them.

You need to be the bearer of ALL news. It's your daughter and you don't want anything to hurt her! That means you call ALL the punches!

You want a relationship with them because? They sound so petty and controlling I don't think you or your kids would suffer if they were'nt in contact.
