I'm looking for an inexpensive embroidery machine, I've never done it before so I don't want to spend a ton of money just in case I don't like it. Does anyone know of any place I could find one that's in good shape, but used?

I wouldn't recommend going the cheap route. I wouldn't trust one under $1500 new . . . Go to a place that sells them new and get some good names (Huskvarna Vikings are what I'm partial to), the look on eBay to see if any used ones are avaliable. What ever you do, don't get the White 3300 or 4400, they seem nice enough (great price at six or seven hundred dollars, but they are CRAP . . . can't even adjust the tension on them, and that makes for a baaaad embroidery design). Embroidery Machines are great fun once you get started though.

embroidery is traditionally done by hand any sewing machine can reproduce the effect but the point of embroidery is it was ladies making pictures in thread to waste time ok the fact they were decorative was a bonus

You could try Craig's List. Or Brother makes some affordable ones:

Good luck!
