Becuase they each need the OS to run and you aren't supposed to use the same key for multiple computers.

Becasue you have 3 individual computers. The licensing on any software (including Operating Systems) is based on a per computer basis. You can, like any other software to volume licensing, but it usually isn't cost effective until you reach above 50 PC licenses with Windows.

Once you buy a license to use software it is only good for one computer. Their software is indivually licensed. Unless, you buy a volume license which would allow you to use the software on more than one computer.

it is a copyrite thing

you will buy one piece of software for each computer used anywhere in the world.

read teh agreement that you accept when you install the software and see what you agree to.

You could always use a free OS on your computers such as Linux or BSD

Then you don't have to buy anything.
