How does he shave and get a haircut? How'd ol' Ma Kent cut up that indestructible suit? Was she an accomplished bootmaker as well?

All cutting tools were made by Pa Kent from the ship. Glass in the rocket was used to make a crude pair of scissors and later a razor. Same with the suit--although I've seen some pictures where it was ripped before. Jor-el had a lot of ideas on those crystal tutorials too--which covered most of these kinds of issues. He knew the planet he was sending his son too, at least in a general way. Knew the powers his son would have, so came up with those minor, but important, technical aspects for Kal-el to learn. DC comics spent a lot of time trying to answer some of these kinds of questions, even explaining how a big guy like Superman can hide under a cheap pair of glasses. They explained that the glasses were made from the windshield of the rocket, and that Superman uses subtle hypnotics to make everyone believe he was smaller and weaker. If they can explain that one with rocket specifics, I imagine they woudl find my explanations logical as well. Hopefully, I've helped.

In the comic books ... his hair simply doesn't grow. Some of the stories have red kryptonite plots which tweak his powers and then sometimes he's shown with a scruffy beard.
His suit was made from the blanket wrapped around him in the ship and was unraveled and then hand sewn (woven, I suppose) back together again.
His glasses are indeed from his rocket ship so they can take the punishment of his heat vision.
Early comics often had him 'grooming' by using his heat vision. Same with crafting his glasses, he made them himself.
AND my favorite was that their was a pocket in his cape and he'd super-compress his Clark Kent clothes and tote them about in his cape!

He was wrapped in suit. He was bald in krypton and got hair in earth, which are dead cells and grow 1 inch in 10 years.
