They are really low maintainance .Does she not have even 1 friend to help?My little girl had 1 for years that she took care of herself and she was a preteen at the time.Surly there is someone that can do this for your sis.Let them know if it DOES die she won't blame them or offer to a petstore as a last resort. They just can't be placed in the same tank with another beta as they will fight.

Bettas are hardy fish which can survive in different situations. Try putting it in at least of 2ft by 1ft tank such that you will not need to change water for the two months. The bigger the tank, the slower is the contamination. Next about feeding it. There are pet shops selling automatic adjustable feeding mechanism operated by batteries usually in a rotary manner. This mechanism is able to house the fish food which should be sufficient to last for two months. It works by periodically release small amount of dried food into the tank. If u can't get this, then too bad. Give the last full feed to it and leave it in the tank but must have sufficient aeration supply to keep it alive. Betta will tends to pick up living things or organisms to eat within the tank when their are hungry. He should be able to survive the two mths.

Well then I guess the beta will be belly up when she gets back. Why can't you take care of it? A fish is the easiest thing to take care of when someone is on vacation. You change the water in the bowl (unless its in a tank) a few times and wash it out to get the gunk out. Fill it back up and put the fish back in. You don't have to let the fish out several times a day to go to the bathroom and you don't have to scoop the litter box. Does she have a neighbor who might be able to keep an eye on the little swimmer? Schools are starting back...Find out if one of the teachers would like to have a class pet for 2 months. Or a pre-school class. Do you know any teachers?

lol I wouldn't take it to the Zoo or a pond as others suggested. I would give it to a friend to take care of it, otherwise I guess the only other option is to donate it to a local fish store.

When I went on vacation I had my boyfriend babysit. Are you members of a church? There are always teens at my church trying to get people to let them pet sit and babysit. Try finding someone at a church willing to help out or a family member or your sister has got to have some friends or a boyfriend! Mine took care of my betta so well he fell in love with it. I think for his birthday I am going to get him a betta fish adn tank! What a great present, huh?

she can put him in a jar and tie it around her neck like bill murray in the movie 'what about bob'! lol jk, if the tank is small maybe she can take it withher, they arent that big of a fish. im sure she can carry him in jar on her trip and set up the tank where ever she is staying. other than that im not sure. good luck though!
there are also automatic feeders out there too. go to the pet store nd see what they suggest

why wouldn't you take care of it? has your sister taken care of things for you in the past when you needed?
beta fish are relatively easy, just listen to how she attends to it.. then do as that.. they don't need much food, water transfer isn't all that. keep away from other fish and keep the water temp cool.

She can take it with her.Look at the betta's in wal-mart and most pet stores. They exist in a tiny amount of water, in a little plastic dish. She can carry him to her destination in a very small covered container,. and buy a vase or something when she gets whee she's going.
