No difference. Just that fag is more like saying that a black person is a n|gger.

One of the definitions of the word f-a-g-g-o-t (the shortened version of f-a-g) is a bundle of sticks or firewood. The term was first used as slang in reference to homosexuals in the early 1900's and is believed to be derived from the 'christian' habit of burning homosexual people at the stake. Homosexuals were considered no better than firewood or f-a-g-g-o-t-s. Gay men were often made to gather the wood to be used in their own death by fire at the stake.

Other definitions of the word f-a-g-g-o-t or f-a-g are:

An archaic unit of measurement.

A British pork meatball.

The name in many languages of the musical instrument bassoon.

F-a-g: A junior boy who acted as servant to a senior boy at a British independent school.

A tedious or labour-intensive chore, and “f-a-g-g-e-d out” to mean exhausted by hard work.

A British colloquialism for cigarette

It is a term that was used when they burned witch's at the stake. What the towns people would do is gather the person in town they thought to be gay....they rapped them in wood and used it to set fire to the witch. The wood that was used to start the fire was called a fag...matrix15sam was on the right track - a bundle of stick or iron rods

If a straight person calls a gay person a fag, its derogatory. But gay people can call each other fags - sort of like black people calling each other the N-word.

Same thing applies to the word Queer. Although some older gay people do not like to use Queer because it reminds them of being taunted by ignorant bigots.

same thing- depends if you want to get slapped or not. Depends who's using the word - a gay person or not. A straight man calling a gay man a f*g is doing it to insult and usually will follow with physical violence.
BTW- f*g in England is a cigarette.

Fag is just a derogatory version of the word gay. Kind of like calling a racist name to somebody of a different race instead of the politically correct version.

Fag is a bit more offensive to me, than gay. It's better to just use the word gay. People who call themselves fags sound like they're disrespective themselves to me.

Gay is a person who loves someone of their own sex. F*g is an extremely vulgar word that refers to sexual intercourse.
