Napster is now legal because you have to either pay per song, or pay a monthly fee for downloads. Any music sharing service that does not charge money is suspect as they could be sharing copyrighted music at no charge (which the person sharing the music for free is liable for any law suits the music industry wants to bring against them).

Technically speaking downloading free music is considering stealing - but it doesn't feel like it as you're not physically "stealing" something from a store. However every time someone shares/downloads copyrighted music for free, it's that much less money the artist makes on their music.

except for music purposely placed by an artist or record company specifically for freedownload, everything else is considered piracy if you are not paying for it...so, you see, you have to pay for it, so there is a site out of Russia where tunes cost 5 cents, so a group of us us that site, we are technically paying for the music, and if the Russians aren't paying royalties, well that's not my problem and good luck catching these Russians because they aren't about to come to the USA to stand trial. Napster isn't free, but it is legal these days.
