What does that mean its about my turn. Twins run on my boyfriends side of the family so it seems with 3 sets in the past 4-5 generations. It was the first time I met this woman and she scared me to death (They live 500 miles away). Is there some sort of pattern with twins in the family, they were all fraternal (if I spelled that right.) Does it matter or no?

my grandmother told me this all my life...it didn't happen to me. she would always tell me that she felt like it was my turn to be the one to have twins...to top it all off, with each pregnancy they would always do an ultrasound to check to see if i was carrying twins ( just big babies for me).

however, twins can run in families, but it's nothing to worry about so much!

get this...i met a girl that had 3. yes, THREE sets of twins. each pregnancy she, and her doctor, didn't think there was an increased risk of twins...she had her tubes tied after having 9 kids!!!! =)
sorry, didn't think i'd get the chance to tell this story...but, you really shouldn't get all worried about it!

take care, and congratulations on ur pregnancy!

If they were fraternal twins and it's on the daddy's side of the family then that shouldn't affect you. You get fraternal twins when the mom releases more than one egg at a time. So, if it is his family and it is usually fraternal twins I don't think you have much to worry about. On the other hand, if there is a history of identical twins in his family you might have a better chance of twins than the average person. I've heard a lot about twins running in families, but if you don't have anything in your family history to make you think you could release multiple eggs at a time I wouldn't think too much about it. Leave that worry to his sister (if he has one). She'd be more likely to have the fraternal twins.

Biologically, your boyfriend has no influence on how many eggs you produce at one time, so fraternal twins is not a worry.
However, identical twins may occur, but it usually skips a generation. You didn't get enough info yet so, it's hard to answer this question.
First you must find out if the mothers of the twins are blood related to your boyfriend, if so, how.
Second, you must find out, which lineage the twins are in. for instance, if it went down a second cousins line, it may not follow yours. But, if your boyfriends brothers are twinsl, it is coming down to your side, but may skip a generation.
Then you find out How often it happens in their family.
You have to find out what their family tree is before you can know what the answer will be.

Fraternal twins are genetic only via the maternal lineage; you'd have to have inherited the tendency to ovulate twice within a cycle in order to have an increased chance of having twins. Nothing about your boyfriend's genetics make it more or less likely. If there is only one egg, there is only one baby, except in the case of the fertilized egg splitting and creating identical twins, which is a fluke and not thought to be genetic at all. Basically, unless they run in YOUR family, you have the same chance of having twins as the average woman does.

Twins run on the mom's side of the family. It has to do with ovulation and passing down some hyper ovulation gene/pattern. Basically, fraternal twins can be hereditary because you may have inherited your mom's or grandma's menstrual cycle of releasing more than one egg in a cycle. You would not get this from your boyfriend---as he already releases a billion sperm. Identical twins is not hereditary. It's more of a freaky science thing when the egg decides to spilt. You could still have twins---but it wouldn't be because of your boyfriend or his family.

my dad actually said the exact same thing to me the other day. " its your turn" :-) twins skips a generation and now its on me. i already have 2 kids, 5 weeks preg with this one... i sure hope not, but hey if i am, ill be happy. sometimes there are patterns, sometimes no. people can have triplets and not even run in the family of twins or nothing. so it doesnt really matter. but hey hun, good luck to you and i wish you all the very best.

twins may run on HIS side, but it's up to the WOMEN on his side...

twins results from either the woman releasing 2 eggs which are fertilized at the same time and implant themselves into the uterus, OR, the egg splits and her body then creates identical twins. I THINK on rare ocassions, for some reason two sperm enter one egg, but don't quote me on that and if it does happen, it's rare. It doesn't have anything to do with the male having super sperm or anything like that though.

I just love grandmothers with their insaine amounts of wonderful feedback during pregnancy. Although they may mean well it is nerveracking all the same!
Twins run on my husbands side of the family but it hasn't happened to us yet. It can happen but I wouldn't freak out until you see the doctor and discuss your family history and see what they say. It is scary to hear but try to remain calm!
You will hear massive amounts of opinions during your pregnancy and my best advice to you is to pick and choose what you want to believe and ignore the rest! People will just say the first thing that comes to mind and you just have to smile and say thanks or flip 'em off :)
The best of luck!!

You know I heard that, that it skips a generation or something, it ran in one of my friends boyfriend's family, but that doesnt guarantee that you will have twins, just calm down and relax, it'll be okay

I don't think it'll be twins. It's usually maternal rather than paternal (like someone said above). But ya never know I guess, but really I think you'll just have one. Congrats!
