Does someone besides me think its suspicious that the government and its allies always seem to bring a terror alert when its ratings are down or key senators start losing the race based on War backlash, hint: Tony Blair and Bush losing their ratings and Joe Liberman losing primary?

I think it helps them turn things around for themselves.

I'm sure it is politically useful to some to keep us in fear of terrorism.

I wonder how much of a threat is *really* twarted by not letting people take their makeup and shampoo on airplaines? It could almost be a phychological ploy to just make Americans afraid--I mean their saying 'look how the terroists could use every-day items people always take on airplaine trips anyway to kill you'.

They could be telling the truth but the thing is I just don't know. I guess I just don't trust the government anymore. I would not even be the first time the government used fear to influence popular opinion, after all: see the link below:

sure and the "fact" that GWB produced OSB JUST before the election in '04. Oh wait, that never happened.

GWB doesn't care about biased ratings. He's smart enough to realize they are useless. I could take a poll and have GWB come out with a 100% approval rating. It's all in who you ask and HOW you ask.

How about this for an idea. The terror alert is because they've found a cell of terrorists (that have been observed for MONTHS) on the verge of causing massive murders. Could THAT be the reason?? Wow, what a concept, a terror alert because of terrorists.

Oh, I don't know-- they had 11 missing Egyptian students running around somewhere (all arrested now) and the whole thing in England with the latest foiled plot. Perhaps you're reading too much into it. What would Bush have to gain? He's a lame duck now.
Have a great day!!!

Oh my dear lord. I'm a cynic at heart but even I have a hard time with this one. I'm no fan of Bush but I think you're way off base here. The terrorists don't stop. Sometimes we don't get them and sometimes we do. This time, we got them. I highly doubt that the timing of it has anything to do with Bush's political career. His popularity has been in the toilet for at least two years. There's nothing special about right now except for the fact that the terrorists planned on striking this Wednesday.

Just be grateful we got them. Go ahead and hate Bush for all the sh!tty things he does but also go ahead and give credit where credit is due. He and Blair got one. Give them that.

Hmmm... the timing is conspicous, isn't it? Sure, someone, somewhere, may be planning "something", but elections do seem to drive the hunt.

Instead of being easily herded along by fear, let's all as Americans make a pact to live with courage. Let them try to attack us again, and they will find a fight they did not expect. We have more important things to do than wait around for some jackass with a bloated sense of religious zeal to do something stupid. Politicians cannot protect us, however they may bluster and promise, or "foil terror plots" on television, but we CAN protect ourselves. We are the strongest asset our country has, so let's act like it.

Hard to say. Anything the government does is suspicious. But, with the recent events in the Middle East, I think we have some serious threats to be concerned about.

How about that mixing chemical in a water bottle? That is really scary - I think that alone makes people think about what they are bringing on a plane, and prepares them. At least you don't spend too much time in security if you are prepared.

You got bro. They have do this for the past 4 years so why would they stop now. It works for them and people like the ones in this forum do care. They think it is being paranoid but it makes all the sense in the world. Watch the Bird Flu is going to come back into the picture soon. Just wait they did not get the boost they thought they would get from this so its time to play the pandemic card.

The country rallied behind Bush after 9/11, so if the governemtn was behind the terrorists we would have been hit again to spike the ratings

Come on!

It's plain to see... if their ratings are down they may loose their jobs, the prospect of losing their jobs frightens even terrorizes them so they do the natural thing, raise the terror alert.

The alert doesn't reflect how you should feel, but rather how 'they' feel.

Don't you think that is is possible that not EVERYTHING the government does is suspect? Do you think that perhaps once in awhile they need to PROTECT their citizens? Stop being so paranoid. There is a war on terror - I think it is better to be over-cautious than to invite another 9-11 or worse.
