Cops came & made our home look like a major crime scene. No arrests were made. No charges filed. People asked did some die? The outcome our home was condemned. no notice, no warning, no letters to have things fixed. Jul 24 2006. We were told that we could not enter our home even to get our personal belongings out. Father passed away house awarded to the 6 children. House is prime property. 1 of 2 homes left on Main street. Yes the house is an eyesore. Yes it does need some tender loving care. But the electric is up to code. The roof was just redone 2 yrs ago. Yes it still has clay pipes for water but it still works. It needs a few new windows could use some weatherizing around doors & windows. The lawn is nice & mowed no weeds or high grass. Could use a coat of paint on the outside. Some minor repairs. I feel as though renters have more rights then a homeowner. The newspaper did not have a word about what looked like some one got Murdered. Small town BIG NEWS...Not a word! Help!!!!

a house does not get condemned because it looks bad. It is because they think it is not strictly sound. Yes this is legal. you might be-able to get an engineer and lawyer to over turn this and prove it is sound.

The can still take it away from you if they give you "proper compensation" for purposes of improving the community. That is different from condemning that is what they would do for the eye sore part.

My advice is to speak to a lawyer and the best, most inexpensive way to do this is through Pre-Paid Legal Services. For more information visit the website below, and feel free to contact me through that site if you have further questions on how this service may be able to help you. I encourage you to find out what your rights and options are in this situation.

I wish you the best of luck.

contact a lawyer. Yes the home needs repairs, but you should have been given some sort of notices. Something smells with this.

Contact the ACLU or the public defenders office if you can't afford a lawyer. You will have to fight it on your own. Send letters to the editor and to the local TV station. Get publicity. That is your best hope.

I would contact legal aid. For low income people. If they can or will not help you, I would still consult an attorney to see what they will tell you. Some attorneys will give you a free consult. This sounds hinky to me. Good luck to you.

taxes won't have anything to do with it. it'd be all those repairs you mentioned. go to city hall find out who's in charge of the house codes. they can tell you what needs to be done.
