Of COURSE they do! That's what govermnemts do best! Remember the WMDs? Do you think there was ANY truth to the rumors about them? Whether they do so for the "protection" of the American people, or for "security" reasons, or just to plain decieve and manipulate the population, it is clearly done on a regular basis.
Personally, I do not believe that there is anything the government would not lie about, nor is there anything they HAVEN'T lied about already.

I think they continually lie - they think it is in the best interest of the people. Some circumstances it might be the right course of action, but who are they to say where and when?
The government is supposed to serve the people.

Yes they lie, without a doubt. All governments do it, sometimes is for the best as it prevents panic in the population but sometimes it is simply to cover up cock ups within the government.
