I just got a new job and they game me a car. The car they gave me was previously owned by a smoker. The car smells like smke now. How do I get the smell out, besides time?

Those air fresheners help just a little - first, vacuum the carpet including under the seats and the area around the ashtray thoroughly - the smell mostly comes from those pieces of cigarette ash that still stays in the car. Then use some air freshener and when you leave your car keep the windows crack open just enough for the air to recirculate.

Get a bag of the cheapest apples you can find.
Smash the apples into a pulp and place them in a large cake pan.
Place the cake pan in the trunk for several days until the apples dry out. Throw the apples away.

I worked in a lot years ago and we got the smell of a corpse out of a car this way.
The boss bought the car at an auction and we got the work.

Febreeze just masks the odor. Spraying it on fabric is like a person putting on cologne when he needs a shower instead. Rent a steam cleaner with attachments and the special shampoo and clean the fabric and let it air dry.

try closing all the windows and putting in a bag of smooth barbaque charqoul the charqoul neutrelizes all smells but leave it for a day or two if that doesnt work try a good air freshener like febreeze its pretty good stuff.

A friend of mine had this problem...

Keep the windows down and spray the crap out of it with febreeze.
Maybe you can squeegee the yellow gunk off the windows that didn't get sucked into the previous owner's lungs.
