than u probably dont need one. a router is a network "traffic cop". it lets messaging, data, and other technical gobbleygook packets be delivered or "routed" to the right recipient according to rules or protocols configured within the router. for home use, u could have a wireless router that connects two pc's to one dsl connection. one pc will be ip address 192.168.2.2 lets say. when that pc does a google search, the answers are routedc correctly back to that pc. in the corporate world, a router can set up hundreds of pc's in different lans, virtual lans, or even as device specific, like all printers will a certain ip address range. they also allow voice over ip functionality. and yea, they can be very expensive depending on their use.

As far as I know they are the best routers for business units, like high security and scalability. Don't need them for home use.
