You shouldn't say it anyway it's a gross word. Call people buy there names or call them Buddy's or something.

Like with all public speaking or conversation, you must know your audience. It matters not your race or nationality, but whether that particular word is accepted in the group. Different social groups react differently to the word and it's usage. It is considered socially derogatory and offensive to many people of color; implying they are inferior. However, some of us have taken it's usage and made it a battle cry and boldly dare anyone to refrain us from it's usage.

Some people irregardless of your race/nationality and their race/nationality are deeply offended by the use of the "N" word. Dropping the "N" bomb is a risky business and cause you a megaton of problems. Once said it can not be retracted, and unfortunately ignorance is no excuse. Learn the history of the word, how you want to infer it, and most importantly how it will be received.

In short just because someone says the "N" word, does not mean they want to be called one.

Be safe, be sure, and GOOD LUCK!

Okay, I have many friends and they are from all sorts of back grounds.
I never use the N word or the C word.
To me it is the same as if someone cusses every other word, it is rude and disrepectful, I think that the only people that should use or can use the N word are those that were born in the era that the word was used and even then I don't like it.
I never want to hear my kids using either one of those words, there is no reason to do so. Just like the word Cracker or Red Neck were used back then doesn't mean they haven't worn out their welcome in this day and age.
Personally to me I don't care if you are half black and white or if you are orange it is disrepectful either way.
and if people don't want to hear other people using that word or others then maybe they shouldn't be saying them as well.
good luck

The N word is n*i*g*g*e*r (remove the stars), since nobody else can say the word (yahoo blocks it).

The explanations people gave are right. If you're mixed, you can say it. Although, I still don't understand why whites can't say it. I mean, we don't do it thinking of slavery. You can say it, but we can't, so it's a racial slur towards you. It's not fair. If a white person uses it without any malice, but the African American person uses it with malice, the white person isn't justified, but the black is. There's no fairness in that, no equality. If there's truly to be an equality between races, we should both be able to do and say the same things without any difference in consequences.

PS. I'm not racist in any way, so pls, no hate emails.

The "N" word means a person of little intelligence. The word in my opinion should be taken out of every ones vocabulary. Those that use that word are just showing how little their vocabulary is and how lame they really are. They us it b/c they can't come up with something else intelligent to say. It's just as bad as and carries the same connotation's as any other racial words that shouldn't be used like wet_back, sp*ic, cracker and so on.....Bottom line just ignore those with low self esteem and bigotry minded individuals!!!!!!!

First of all, the "N" word means uneducated, trashy, and stupidity. it doesn't matter what color you are or whatever. People do used or is using the word, they do not have any respect of others or themselves. I hear "blacks" say that to each other all the time nd they are acting like it's ok but, it's not. It's cool for them to use it each other and when somebody else use ot them they get mad. I don't care what form of the word you are using, you are still using it. You don't see Chinese going around callign each other the "C" word do you? I think it's stupid that people are using racist words on others and it's even more stupid when you are using that on your own race.

You can say whatever you want. Just be ready to face any consequences. The N word is overused anyway. It is a hateful, racist and volatile word, but Rap and Hip Hop has has demystified it and brought it into the current vernacular.

It is considered a racial slur. The word was used by slave owners and others a long time ago. Look the word up in the dictionary.
