Communism didn't work, strict socialism can destroy work ethic, create more problems than it solves.
A political theory that doesn't work is junk, trash it. Query whether neoconism works -- is democracy best spread, or ever spread at the point of a gun or by occupying other countries? I think this theory is resulting in political disasters, civil wars, hatred of America, more terrorist acts. One of the all time loser ivory tower political theories. Junk it and look at history and human psychology; no one wants democracy forced on them, no one wants freedom if that means they get shot on the way to the store.

Socialism leads to communism and the only ones that have it good under Communism are the leaders, it didn't work for Russia, it doesn't work for Cuba. It stifles the mind and puts down any individual thinking of any kind, and it doesn't work for China, in order for China to become more prosperous it had to give their people more freedom which they have, except for freedom to speak out against the government or freedom of the press and they still have state run TV. No religion and no freedom to leave if they want, their are still people dying to get out of China. North Korea their people are starving, except for their leaders they have everything they want don't they. Look at south Korea compared to north Korea, who looks better off to you.

No way JW. Is that why eastern European countries dropped communism and are now flourishing with western style democracies installed? Winston Churchill stated the following TRUTH:
The inherent vice of capitalism is the uneven division of blessings, while the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal division of misery.

of course you are right...the problem you will encounter in this forum is that most people on here have no clue what a true collectivist society entails. almost all of the people on here that will disagree have been told that the reds are our enemy, and communism is evil for so long that they don't question any longer. they never actually learned anything about what true communism calls for. now, granted communist russia and china are no places that i'd like to live...but if you have a true collectivist society, yes that would be ideal.
the major hurdle to accomplishing this goal is energy. if energy (and resources in general) were abundant and free, then there would be no need to compete for them. then the "star trek" ideal could be achieved and everyone could contribute and equally reap the rewards. the second hurdle is man's greed instinct. again, unlimited resources will allow us to evolve beyond this primitive behavior. technology is the key.
but yes, you are right about marx.

the thing that people don't understand is... democracy and communism are not opposing ideas...and are actually working together in countries like Sweden now... and once these ideas are combined, you get rid of the whole "absolute power corrupts absolutely" problem everyone cries about...
when people think of communism they think of authoritarian dictatorships like china or Russia, when being an "authoritarian dictatorship" isn't a necessary component of communism/socialism...

No, communism didn't and won't work. Marx was an idealist, and his visions didn't amount to anything because they failed.

There are plenty of examples to show that socialism and communism have failed miserably.

Well if you need a government to control you then have one.
Personally I don't need one to tell me what to do and not to do,
you just end up with one criminal element defending you from another
criminal element.
Cycle of abuse.
