juat moved house and now my broadband comes in via a network cable not a phone. My Laptop has not performed any different (still flawless) however my PC drops the connection every half minute or so before it re-aquires the network address. Same cable, same line etc? What could it be ? Some difference in the settings??

disable your firewall I.E Zone labs if you have it, and see if it still drops connection.
Try select network addresses, and put the setting to automatic finding an address. this will give you the best address to use.

Test your connection with this
http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/
It will tell you if you have a good connection, then at least you know which end to start with, pc or provider

Apart from than, i have no idea try the link below

There could be many possibilities, given. I moved into a newer house a few years ago and had a similar problem. If you are able to select network addresses, try setting it to automatically finding an address. This will allow it to find the best address to use. Other possibilities are bad cables, suprisingly the location of your house could be it, depending on how close you are to a main server. If all else fails, I would contact your local ISP provider and notify them of the situation, if setting it automatically doesn't help then this is the only thing I know to do. ~Amani~

Disable all firewalls and check if it's working. If not, sometimes it could also be due to a loose contact of network cable at the port. Remove the internet cable and plug it in and try again.
If the cable is not the problem then change LAN settings to Obtain IP automatically.

I had a similar experience, but it only did it when windows firewall was on but not when zonealarm was, so i can only assume it is some quirk in windows firewall (if you have it)
