It seems like it used to be, "Hey, I'll make a dollar, you'll make a dollar and your supplier will make one too." But now it's, "I'm going to get all three dollars and you figure out how you are going to make some money and then I want 10% payback of that!"
Even in general business it seems like everyone wants to screw everyone else and who cares if you go out of business because there will be someone else giving up their lives saving right behind you.

I work in Detroit for a custom sheet metal fabricator. We are all feeling pressure from the automotive and Teir 1 companies, but now everyone else is following suit. They see it as the new way to do business.

I think there has always been a cut throat element in the business world, but no one can do everything. I think it is a very unhealthy business attitude. Perhaps if you are close to retirement and have established yourself you might be able to do this sort of thing, but most people realize that screwing someone over affects your reputation.

It's not the norm, but it is the most talked about. I personally think you should treat people in business like you want to be treated.
Remember, the relationships you establish could make or break you in business. It's just like life; you are judged by the company you keep. Sometimes there are some unscrupulous business practices that seem to get all the attention, and sound like that's the way to go. Do not let the lure of money be your calling. Good is still Good not matter how you color it, just as trash still smells no matter how you cover it up.

It sounds like you are one of the good ones and I wish you well.

Just do your homework, check references, and even with all of that it can still be a crap-shoot.

But the bottom line is do you like the person you see in the mirror each morning and night as far as your business practices go?

Let's face it, you're in a city and business such that anyone you're doing business with has the upper hand. They know how things are and that you're desperate for the business.

Don't assume that because your firm is at the market's mercy that what you see is the new "style of business" country wide. It's the old style of business when someone is on the ropes and you guys are on the ropes.

Man, you listen to LIBERALS too much. That the way Liberals claim business is conducted, but what do Socialist and Communists know about business.

Trust me, if you try to conduct business in that manner you will not last long. You will be out of business very quickly and ruin you name.
