No, USB Cable is for use in connecting devices to computers not for connecting one computer to another. For that you would need a cross over cable. Using a cross over cable will enable you to configure an ad-hoc network in which the computers are able to communicate with each other. This communication will enable the computers to share resourses like a printer and transfer files between the two computers. You can buy a cross over cable at any local electronics store such as Fry's or Best Buy.
However, just connecting the two computers with the cross over cable will not automatically set up the ad-hoc network. After connecting the computers you will need to configure the network. Use the Network Setup Wizard to do this. If you do not have any knowlege of setting up networks, even one as simple as ad-hoc, you will need some type of instructions to follow.
There is all types of information on the web. However, much of this information can lead to confusion as a lot of it is obsulete, due to rapid advancements in this field and a lack of updating previous information as the advancements changed the face of networking. I highly suggest you purchase a book called "Absolute Beginner's Guide to Home Networking" by Mark Edward Soper.
This book is about 330 pages in leangth, is easy to read, has good instructions which are easy to follow. It explains current netwroking configurations. It also has great extra information on adding other types of nodes (devices) to your network, Live T.V like TiVo, Game Consoles, DvD players, Stereos, and other entertainment devices. It also has information on setting up security devices such as cameras and such.
I found this book invaluable when I first began my journey into setting up networks. First in my home and then at my own business. I have a small business with six networked computers, so I don't use a server. I am the sole IT person at my business so I have had to learn a lot and quickly. This book was my first stop and got me off to a great start. Later I bought the book Windows XP Professional Inside Out, but this is a thick book which addresses nearly everything you need to know about using XP Professional Edition OS. It has a lot of information, and it provides outside links for further informaiton on about any subject.
Start with Mark Soper's book. You won't go wrong with that one and it gets directly to the point, with clear, concise information which is easy to follow. It will get you up to speed in no time at all.
Good luck connecting your two comptuers together, and have a nice day!

yes u can, u can also connect 2 PCs thru a Cat-5e cross-over cable, but its not anything like setting up a network, to do that you need a router that will route packets (data) between ur machines or out to the next hub (your DSL/cable modem, THE INTERNET, etc.)
