What was it, JSJ or something like that? Problems of Philosophy class...
God can't possibly be omnipotent, omniscient, and all loving. So we've got that down. So if we assume he's not all loving, then he can have whatever motivations he wants, so while he can be in hell, he chooses not to. And really, Hell is only defined by that place where God isn't. Then again, that would mean God COULDN'T be in hell, because that would make it no longer hell.

You've just hit the problem of the "alls". God is supposed to be all-powerful, all-knowing and all-good. However, the problem of evil throws into question at least one of the alls. For evil to exist, God would have to be either (as you propose) not powerful enough to want to deal with it, or not good enough to stop it, or just not know it's happening. Most religions grapple with this issue. For example, Mormonism says that God is not quite powerful enough to stop some of the evil.
I'm not saying that's the right way to look at it, just that it's one way. I studied religion extensively in college and this problem comes up again and again in every faith. To say that God is all-powerful, all-knowing and all-good makes the existence of evil (and hell) harder to explain. You can deal with it by throwing out one of the "alls", but at the end of the day this question is still largely unresolved. Believers have been arguing about it for the last 2,000 years and a full, satisfactory answer may never be found. The two most common ways to deal with this issue are represented by the first two answers you recieved. The first person said that there is no God. After looking at the problem of evil and the mutual exclusivity of the "alls", some people have decided that there is no God. The second answer said that God really is all of the alls. I assume that this person believes that we cannot fully understand how God works or why there is evil. This is another common reaction but it still leaves difficult unanswered questions.
And I know- I haven't really solved your problem either.
That's the thing. No one can help you make sense of God. It's between you and Him. Or Her, if that's what you believe. Pray, meditate, or do whatever makes you feel closest to God. See what God says back to you.

I can understand your confusion and perhaps there is not easy answer for this. God is everywhere. Yes, God is somehow aware of what is happening in hell.. what we don't know and this is a mystery is how this is so.. How can God be everywhere and all knowing? This is a concept that is too difficult for us to know. What is wonderful is that when we do meet our maker - God, we will understand how God is everywhere and the mysteries of God will be reveled to us. So, walking in the ways the God wants us to walk is important. Being someone who understands that God sees and knows all makes us a better human being and that we would only want to treat our fellow humans as we would want to be treated. I hope this helps and more ways to understand God is to study the bible and learn more of what God is saying to you - through the living word.

God is all-powerful and all-knowing, but He is also 100% holy. No being that isn't also 100% holy can even enter His presence. That's why God created Hell -- it's the final resting place for all beings, including angels, that are not 100% holy. See, Satan (the Devil) was once one of God's archangels, but he wasn't content with being a servant of God, so he convinced some angels to follow him and try to overthrow Heaven. Of course, God knew it was going to happen, so the attempt was unsuccessful. God banished Satan and his followers to hell, and the Bible also teaches that those whose names are not written in the Book of Life (meaning their sins were not washed away through the blood of Jesus Christ) will be cast into Hell for eternal punishment.

Psalm 139
O Lord, You have searched me and known me.
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;...
You understand my thought from afar,...
And are intimately acquainted with all my ways.
Even before there is a word on my tongue
Behold, O Lord, You know it all.
You have enclosed me behind and before and laid Your hand upon me....
Where can I go from your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, you are there;
If I make my bed in the nether world behold, You are there.
If I take the wings of the dawn,
If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea,
Even there your hand will lead me
And your right hand will lay hold of me.
If I say, "Surely the darkness will crush me, and the light around me will be night",
Even the darkness is not dark to You,
And the night is as bright as the ay.
Darkness and light are alike to you."...
You will say, why do you Christians always quote Scripture.
It's because you ask questions about Scripture when you ask questions about God. And I didn't think you'd look it up for yourself, so I wrote it out for you.
It's worth reading on, you know. There is more.

only bad people are thrown down to that level where satan is. god only resides in place and people that are good. once you do something bad the spirit subsides from you, so there is no way he is in outer darness. He might be in control of who goes there but he does not reside there.
