I know it shouldn't be that confusing to me, but am I understanding this correctly? The UN called for a cease fire in the religious wars in the middle east, and they are disregarding it? What happens when people don't listen to the UN, are there repercussions? What exactly happened other than a semi world wide "shame on you" when we ignored them?

Depends on your clout. USA can get away by ignoring the UN as they did in the case of Iraq. But if u are a small nation, and in the bad books of USA, then u had it.

But in the end, there is aways God. In Afganistan, USA went along with UN and all the big nations have contributed to the fall of Taliban and in reconstruction of the nation there on.

In Iraq, USA, disregarded the UN, and went in with its close allies. The result - 3000+ americans dead, 100,000+ Iraqies dead, the country is on the verge of civil war. Most other countries are not helping at all.

As u sow, so shall u reap.

Not for the United States, no. If it were a third world or a not as powerful nation, absolutely. They're called sanctions - heard of a place called Iran?

Almost the entire world, including the UN, opposed the US going into Iraq - didnt hear of any sanctions being imposed for that. Its rather hypocritical - the security council nations pretty much decide what the UN will say/do.

Nothing will happen if you are in the Middle East. But is you are the United States, the UK, France, etc. There will be. Basically Muslims are free to disregard the UN.
