I think 'shame' is a term few Americans will admit to. It's a pretty strong term, and Americans are proud by nature.

Unhappy? Sure. Misled? Yes.

Do we have less faith in him and his cabinet after seeing what they've done with their time in office? Absolutely.

The next round (or two) of elections will prove this. Not just Bush (or his chosen successor) but his entire political party is feeling the backlash. The surveys and polls conducted show the American public has lost faith in him after too many mistakes and missteps. This will cause change in the future. If not a change of leading political party, certainly a change in party philosophy.

Bush played on peoples beliefs and morals to get their votes. The angle chosen to align with 'Christian values' struck many Americans in the heart, and they thought they were doing the right thing by voting him into office. The results have proven to be less-than stellar, the national debt is at a historically-obscene level, and no one is happy with the results of his middle eastern 'experiment.'

His chosen alignment with the huge corporate monsters has exposed a massive 'pay-to-play' scheme, which basically put votes in congress up for sale to the highest bidder. This plan was accepted as normal business in Washington until it was all exposed. Massive contributions served Bush well.

The time has come for a change, though. The sad part is how someone else will have to clean up this mess, and the cleanup will be more expensive than the mess. We Americans will be paying this debt for generations to come. It's a sad truth no one wants to readily admit yet, but the truth will all be told once the numbers are published.

The WMD fiasco is almost irrelevant because it's been made clear Bush wanted to get Saddam even before 9/11. History will make this point clear. Saddam infuriated Bush Sr., so Bush Jr. went after him. All he needed was a reason, and Saddam was stupid enough to give him one by not letting UN inspectors go where they pleased. It was the perception of WMDs that was sold to the public - Saddam's not allowing free inspections sold the deal.

As Americans, we'll probably never be 'ashamed' of anything we do. It's not in our nature. As a nation built by people of all the world, we have too much pride in our accomplishments to admit to being ashamed. With all of our faults, we still give more charity to the rest of the world than anyone else. There's still more freedom here than almost anywhere else on the planet. The dream of making a good life for oneself can still be realized here.

Politics will change, but pride will not.

We wish things would have been done differently, but that is as close to being 'ashamed' as Americans will probably admit to.

I think that President Bush has made a lot of errors and wrong moves therefore some americans may be ashamed but in the same way I am ashamed that Tony Blair can not stand up for himself and decides that he will go on holiday during one of the biggest crisis of his time as pm.
When the president and PM wanted our votes they fed us false hope and promises then as soon as they are elected they backtrack on all they said.

Not really ashamed, astonished at how stupid and how much of a puppet he is. Ashamed that I am an American and fellow Americans elected him, and now blindly follow him even though the things he does and says are just mind blowingly dumb.

"There were in fact weapons of mass destruction found."

actually there weren't any instance of them finding the weapons was later disproven or discovered what appeared to be WMDs had a use. Example such as the tractor trailers in the desert that everyone thought were mobile chemical labs were really being used to treat and test water for villages. Why do you think Bush and his press secretary aren't trumpetting them?

Being an American, I can unequivocally state that I am not ashamed of Bush for, as you put it, "The lie of mass destruction". My assumption is you mean "The lie of Iraq having possession of weapons of mass destruction"
There were in fact weapons of mass destruction found.

Personally I am ashamed of having a president who can't speak English.

They should be, but they are not even ashamed of the fact that he stole the election. ie did not win the popular vote and disenfranchised a whole heap of Americans.
They are not ashamed of his response when katrina hit.
He has lied over and over, and continues to do so but the american press and media portray something completely different and gullible american people swallow it hook, line and sinker. Its not really their fault that patriotism is pounded into them, and asking why is pounded out, its just how it is.

I am a U.S Army vet and I think Bush is the worst leader in the history of America. He is semi-literate, narcissistic, narrow minded and an habitual liar.

Americans find it hard to understand world events because of the extreme censorship the suffer. So don't blame them, blame their media.
