The first day, if I were you, I would just wear a cool pair of jeans and a cute t-shirt. You don't want to stand out too strongly on your first day. It's the day you'll be most insecure and you don't want people drawn to notice you and your insecurities. If it's the wrong person, they'll just make fun of you and that would be a bad start.
Also try to smile genuinely when you meet people and don't act shy or insecure. Don't bother talking much or trying to make an impression. The first day you mainly just want to watch people and figure out the structure of who's popular and who's bad and who's nice and would make a great friend.
The second week, you can start getting people to notice you easily and like you, by talking to them and being outgoing, if you haven't already made a bad impression on them the first week. Bad impressions are made by not smiling (which is usually interpreted as being a snob) and trying to get attention by being obnoxious.

Check with your new school's dress code first, but I'd suggest jeans with a tank top and some jewelry. Don't forget comfortable shoes. Also, take a jacket the first day. You never know how cold the school will be. (Mine's usually freezing!)

Welcome, Akua! First,you will find out later that you don't have to dress like everyone else to fit in.But since you asked, look at the hair & teen magazines, JC Penney store circular,TJ Maxx, local boutiques,nd online for lastest clothing.Put together a couple of simple outfits, including earrings, a pair of shoes, sneakers, a skirt outfit, and a girly jeans outfit.When you get to school look at the different styles then go home or shopping and put together a look that is good for you.Please do not dress provocatively. You'll only get attention you don't want.Don't forget about the colors and styles from Africa and mix it in into your new style.The key is to have an IN style and not exactly like everyone else. If u hate fake nails like me, just shape up your own nails and toe nails buff and polish them clear or whatever color you want. Once you get the hang of this.Go to the clearance and sales racks to get bargains.like I did learn to sew, make, and sell your own clothes. If Wal-mart, Joann-Fabrics, or Micheal's is near you they have classes, sewing machines, and fabrics. I hope this helps. You can email me if you have anymore questions. Good luck.

Just make it casual, but add your style to it. Maybe a jean skirt and polo, or nice top. If you don't want to buy something new, make something old, new. Like add a cool accessory, or a different pair of shoes. Also, just be yourself. Try to introduce yourself to a lot of people who you think you'd be good friends with, and don't hold back your personality!

public school sucks!
i have sisters who are twins. one teaches public one teaches private. the private school teacher is a happier PERSON than the public school system teacher; but, each suites them. one is more of a 'good catholic' and teaches at a catholic school. the other is also a manager of a bar. she teaches in a public school. want to hear something sad? she needs the bar job to make ends meet. the private school teacher doesn't. does that tell daddy anything about the public school system here? barmaids get paid better than teachers!
ASK TO GO TO PRIVATE SCHOOL

Go to Abercrombie and Fitch or Aeropostale or American Eagle. Anything you find in those stores will be good for 8th grade.
As far as how to act - just be yourself. We moved a LOT when I was a kid and it was hard. But if you just act like yourself you will be fine. Don't try to be someone you aren't. Good Luck!!!
